Colts Rookie LB and Burlsworth Trophy Winner Has Veterans on Edge by Day Two After Knocking Down Daniel Jones Four Times During a Single Practice Session

Posted May 15, 2026

Indianapolis, Indiana — The Indianapolis Colts are already witnessing one of the biggest surprises of the 2026 offseason following an explosive showing from rookie linebacker Bryce Boettcher.

Only entering his second official day of practice with the team, Boettcher has already forced the entire coaching staff and several Colts veterans to pay very close attention.

According to multiple internal sources, the Burlsworth Trophy winning rookie managed to knock down quarterback Daniel Jones four separate times during a single practice session.

His aggressive performance immediately became one of the biggest talking points throughout Indianapolis’ training facility.

Several people inside the organization reportedly described Boettcher as playing “like someone fighting for his final chance to survive in the NFL.”

What surprised coaches the most was not only his closing speed toward the quarterback but also the relentless intensity he maintained on every single rep.

Several veterans along the offensive line are reportedly already beginning to feel real pressure from the overlooked rookie linebacker.

Boettcher entered the NFL carrying the mentality of a player who has spent his entire career trying to prove doubters wrong.

During his time at Oregon, he became known for his “walk on mentality” and his ability to play with nearly limitless energy.

In his final college season with the Ducks, Boettcher recorded 135 tackles and led the team in tackles in 11 out of 15 games.

Many scouts previously questioned whether he possessed enough explosiveness to succeed at the NFL level, but his minicamp performances are now forcing many evaluators to reconsider.

According to internal sources, Boettcher has been especially impressive with his ability to read blitz situations and perfectly time his attacks into the pocket.

During one sequence described internally as “terrifying,” he completely blew past protection and dropped Daniel Jones less than three seconds after the snap.

The entire Colts offensive line reportedly had to adjust multiple protection calls after Boettcher repeatedly generated nonstop pressure throughout practice.

One veteran inside the locker room admitted several players have already started viewing Boettcher as a legitimate threat to earn an early starting role.

“He plays like he’s trying to prove the entire world wrong. You can feel it in every collision, every pursuit angle, and every time he explodes toward the quarterback.”

Head coach Shane Steichen is reportedly extremely pleased with the energy Boettcher has brought to the Colts defense.

Meanwhile, several NFL analysts are beginning to believe Indianapolis may have found a legitimate steal from the 2026 NFL Draft.

As of Thursday night, Boettcher remained the most discussed player inside the Colts facility following a breakout performance that has already placed the veteran roster on alert.

Just 3 Hours After Being Lauded for a 'Perfect Draft,' the Colts Stun the NFL by Cutting 3 Veteran Leaders Who Guided the Team to Three Consecutive Playoffs – Tension Now Spreading Through the Locker Room, Per Adam Schefter
Just 3 hours after being praised as one of the most complete draft classes in recent years, the Indianapolis Colts stunned the NFL with unexpected internal developments. According to multiple sources, veteran leaders Kenny Moore II, DeForest Buckner, and Quenton Nelson are no longer part of the team’s long-term plans. While they have not been officially released, all three are currently under evaluation and could become the next players to be moved. This development immediately sparked debate across the league regarding the Colts’ direction during a critical transition phase. After adding a wave of young talent in the 2026 NFL Draft, the Colts roster quickly became crowded. Instead of cutting lesser-known players, the organization is now considering moving on from long-time foundational pieces. The recent draft class clearly reflects a shift toward youth, speed, and long-term upside. Several rookies are expected to compete for immediate roles, putting pressure on previously stable positions. That reality means even veteran players are no longer considered safe within the current system. Kenny Moore II has long been a key piece in the secondary, known for his intelligence and consistency. DeForest Buckner remains a dominant presence on the defensive line, bringing pressure and leadership over multiple seasons. Quenton Nelson, a symbol of physical dominance on the offensive line, has been one of the league’s top guards for years. Seeing all three placed under uncertainty signals that this is more than a routine roster adjustment. It reflects a deeper philosophical shift in how the Colts are building their roster. Internal sources indicate the front office believes the younger core must be given opportunities early to accelerate development. However, not everyone inside the locker room appears comfortable with the speed of these changes. Some players have reportedly begun questioning the team’s long-term stability and direction. The potential departure of established leaders has made the atmosphere increasingly tense. The timing — just hours after a highly praised draft — has only intensified the emotional impact. One anonymous source described the current environment as “uncertain and uneasy.” The message from leadership is clear: no position is guaranteed, regardless of past achievements. The upcoming training camp is expected to be one of the most competitive periods in recent Colts history. For now, major decisions still lie ahead, and the futures of these three players remain unresolved. In Indianapolis, a new era is taking shape — but it may come at the cost of familiar faces.
