The New York Yankees are expected to be one of the most aggressive teams at the 2026 MLB trade deadline. While they may need depth at catcher, their sky-high World Series ambitions could push them to pursue a true game-changer.
Recent buzz has connected Colorado Rockies catcher Hunter Goodman with the Yankees. Given the Rockies’ rebuilding status, Goodman — who has emerged as one of the top offensive catchers in baseball this season — would require a significant haul to acquire.
Yankees Proposed Trade for Hunter Goodman
According to a recent Bleacher Report article by Kerry Miller, one bold trade proposal sends a three-player package from New York to Colorado:
The Trade: New York Yankees acquire C Hunter Goodman from the Colorado Rockies in exchange for RHP Carlos Lagrange, OF Spencer Jones, and SS Kaeden Kent.
This is a hefty price, but Goodman’s recent dominance makes him extremely attractive. Since the start of June, he has smashed an MLB-leading 14 home runs. For the full season, his 27 homers rank second only to Kyle Schwarber’s 30. With three years of arbitration eligibility remaining, he won’t come cheap.

Hunter Goodman’s Impressive 2026 Season
Goodman has established himself as one of the best-hitting catchers in the majors. He is batting .243 with 27 home runs, 13 doubles, 75 hits, and an .853 OPS — well above league average. His power surge has turned heads league-wide.
For the Yankees, Spencer Jones and Carlos Lagrange (recently placed on the IL) would be the centerpieces of the deal. The organization appears to be losing patience with Jones due to persistent strikeout issues. Meanwhile, New York has struggled offensively, being held to four runs or fewer in 12 straight games and getting minimal production from Austin Wells.
The proposal notes that after successfully acquiring Ryan McMahon and Jake Bird from Colorado last year, the Yankees could look to strike again with the Rockies.
While this remains a speculative trade idea, the MLB deadline often produces surprising deals. If Colorado decides to sell, the Yankees are well-positioned as one of the few teams capable of meeting the asking price for a player of Goodman’s caliber.
This is a proposed trade scenario based on analysis from Bleacher Report and does not reflect any official discussions.
